What is YouPractice?
YouPractice is a language learning platform that lets you practice with real YouTube videos. You can practice listening comprehension, pronunciation through shadowing, and even have AI-powered conversations about video content.
How do I get started?
Simply search for a YouTube video or paste a video URL on our search page. We automatically detect videos with captions. Once you select a video, choose your practice mode and start learning!
What languages are supported?
YouPractice supports any language that has YouTube captions available - over 57 languages! This includes major languages like Spanish, French, Japanese, Korean, German, Chinese, and many more.
Do I need to install anything?
No! YouPractice is a web app that works directly in your browser. We also offer a Chrome extension for enhanced features, but it's completely optional.
Practice Modes
What practice modes are available?
We offer 3 practice modes: Listening Mode (type what you hear), Shadowing Mode (record and compare pronunciation), and Speaking Mode (AI conversations).
Which practice modes are free?
Listening Mode is completely free. Shadowing Mode requires a Plus subscription, and Speaking Mode requires a Pro subscription.
What is Shadowing Mode?
Shadowing is a proven language learning technique where you listen to native speech and repeat it, mimicking pronunciation and intonation. Our Shadowing Mode lets you record yourself, play back your recording, and compare it with the original speaker.
What is Speaking Mode?
Speaking Mode enables AI-powered conversations about video content. After watching a segment, the AI asks you questions about what you watched. You respond by speaking or typing, creating a natural conversation practice experience.
What is AI Pronunciation Scoring?
AI Pronunciation Scoring is a Pro feature within Shadowing Mode. It analyzes your pronunciation and provides detailed feedback including word accuracy scores, phoneme-level analysis, and personalized improvement tips.

What subscription plans are available?
We offer two tiers: Free (complete practice including shadowing) and Pro ($9.99/month with AI-powered features). Annual plans save 20%.
What do I get with Pro?
Pro gives you AI Pronunciation Scoring, Speaking Mode with AI conversation, word-by-word accuracy feedback, cloud sync, and priority support.
Is shadowing free?
Yes! Shadowing practice (record and compare with native speakers) is completely free. Upgrade to Pro for AI pronunciation feedback.
Can I cancel my subscription?
Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. You'll continue to have access until the end of your current billing period.
Is there a free trial?
Our Free tier lets you try the core practice modes forever. This way, you can experience YouPractice before deciding to upgrade for advanced features like Shadowing and Speaking modes.
Technical Questions
Does YouPractice work on mobile?
Yes! Our web app is fully responsive and works on mobile browsers. For the best experience, we recommend using Chrome or Safari on your mobile device.
Why can't I find captions for a video?
YouPractice requires videos with captions (subtitles). If a video doesn't have captions enabled by the creator, we won't be able to use it for practice. Try searching for videos on similar topics - many educational content creators include captions.
How does voice recognition work?
We use your browser's built-in Web Speech API for voice recognition. This means your audio is processed locally in your browser for privacy. Make sure to grant microphone permissions when prompted.
Is my data secure?
Yes, we take security seriously. We use industry-standard encryption, secure authentication through Clerk, and never share your personal data with third parties. Your practice history and progress are stored securely in the cloud.
